Frequently asked questions
What types of leather does Paracord.eu sell?
We stock leather straps on a roll, leather cord, nappa leather, vegetable-tanned leather remnants, waxed sewing thread and leatherworking tools. Straps are available from 10 to 40 mm wide and 2 to 4 mm thick.
Which leather is best for a belt or dog collar?
Vegetable-tanned or top-grain leather from 3 to 4 mm thick gives the best rigidity for belts and dog collars. Pair it with a triglide or snap hook rated to your dog's weight.
Which leather is best for jewellery and necklaces?
Thin leather cord or nappa leather from 1 to 2 mm is flexible enough for bracelets, necklaces and pendants. Round leather cord from 1.5 to 2 mm is the most common choice for pendants.
Can I order leather by the metre?
Yes, selected leather straps and cord are sold by the metre or on a roll and cut to your required length. See leather straps on a roll for the full range and available lengths.
What waxed thread do you stock for leather stitching?
We stock Xiange Twist waxed polyester thread (0.5 to 0.8 mm) and Linhasita waxed cord (0.5 to 1.0 mm). Both are suited to hand-stitching leather with a saddle needle; 0.8 mm is a good starting size for most projects.
