A package deal is a pre-measured spool or bundle at a fixed length, rather than buying per metre. You pay less per metre and have enough for multiple projects in one order. A good choice if you regularly make bracelets, dog leads or outdoor gear and do not want to reorder small quantities each time.
Which package sizes are available?
The range covers several lengths so you can buy exactly the amount you need. Paracord 550 Type III is available in 10, 30, 100 and 300 metres (roughly 33, 100, 330 and 1,000 ft). Paracord 425 Type II and 100 Type I come in 50-metre spools (approximately 165 ft). Micro cord (1.2, 1.4 and 1.5 mm) is available in smaller packages of 10 to 40 metres and as a large 300-metre spool.
Spool, roll or bundle?
Larger lengths such as 100 and 300 metres are supplied on a spool or roll, practical for heavy use and easy to store. Smaller quantities come as a bobbin or bundle. The packaging type is listed on each product page.
Which paracord types are available as package deals?
Package deals are available in several types and diameters. The right choice depends on your project and the thickness and strength you need. If you are looking for a specific colour, all types are also available per metre.
Paracord 550 Type III
The 550 Type III is the most popular choice. With a diameter of approximately 4 mm, seven inner strands and a breaking strength of around 250 kg (550 lbs), it suits virtually any project. Popular uses include bracelets, dog leads and collars. For most makers this is the go-to option.
Paracord 425 Type II and 100 Type I
The 425 Type II is thinner (approximately 3 mm) and better suited to finer work. The 100 Type I is thinner still (approximately 2 mm) and often used for children's bracelets and collars for small dogs. Both are available as a 50-metre package deal (approximately 165 ft).
Micro cord (1.2, 1.4 and 1.5 mm)
Micro cord is very thin cord for detail work, keyrings and jewellery. The 1.2 mm variant is also available as a large 300-metre spool. Browse all colours and variants in the micro cord category.
What do you use a package deal for?
Package deals suit anyone who knots regularly or works on larger projects. Think survival bracelets, dog leads and collars, rope halters, keyrings and outdoor use such as guy lines and lashing when camping or scouting. With a 100 or 300-metre spool you have enough cord for an entire season of projects.
How much paracord do you need?
A good rule of thumb for a standard cobra bracelet is around 2 to 2.5 metres of cord per bracelet (roughly 6.5 to 8 ft). From a 100-metre spool you can knot forty to fifty bracelets. For specific projects you can calculate the exact length with the Matchmaker.
Properties and quality
Paracord 550 is made from 100 per cent nylon, both the core and the sheath. The cord is supple, colourfast and resistant to UV, moisture and mildew, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The name comes from parachute cord, for which this type was originally developed, and that origin says a lot about its quality.
Frequently asked questions about paracord package deals
Why is a package deal cheaper than buying per metre?
By buying a larger quantity in one go you pay less per metre than with the per-metre concept. The larger the spool, the lower the price per metre.
How many metres are in a package deal?
That depends on the type. Paracord 550 is available in 10, 30, 100 and 300 metres (approximately 33, 100, 330 and 1,000 ft). Paracord 425 and 100 come in 50 metres (approximately 165 ft). Micro cord ranges from 10 to 300 metres depending on the diameter.
How many bracelets can you make from a spool of paracord?
Allow around 2 to 2.5 metres per standard cobra bracelet. From a 100-metre spool you can easily knot forty to fifty bracelets.
What is the difference between Type 550, 425 and 100?
The difference is in diameter and breaking strength. Type III 550 has a diameter of approximately 4 mm and a breaking strength of around 250 kg (550 lbs). Type II 425 is thinner (approximately 3 mm) and Type I 100 is the thinnest (approximately 2 mm). The thinner the cord, the finer the knotwork you can create with it.
What is the breaking strength of paracord 550?
Paracord 550 Type III has a breaking strength of approximately 250 kg (550 lbs), making it strong enough for virtually any hobby project and light outdoor use.
Is the paracord supplied on a spool or as a bundle?
Larger lengths such as 100 and 300 metres are supplied on a spool or roll. Smaller quantities (10 and 30 metres) come as a bobbin or bundle. The packaging type is listed on each product page.
Is paracord 550 suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The nylon cord is resistant to UV, moisture and mildew and perfectly suited for outdoor use, whether that is camping, scouting or everyday use.
